When I first started out as an intuitive reader I wasn’t very confident. I didn’t really like speaking with a lot of people, much less unknown people from the Internet. I also didn’t really know how to “do” a reading — I just knew that I had the ability to look deeply into the lives of people, and to help them.
As a result, in the beginning, all I offered were email readings. I think I charged $15 for a reading — which was not very much, even back then.
The result of following earnestly after my life purpose — even timidly — was that work skyrocketed. Word of mouth built quickly, doubling — then tripling and quadrupling — my appointments. As it did I perfected my process, honed my skills, and developed a protocol that insured my clients received what Spirit most wanted to give them — every time.
However, and even so …
I still charged very little.
At the time I, like so many other Lightworkers (meaning intuitive readers, channelers, energy healers, and other spiritual practitioners who conduct client sessions), was conflicted about actually charging money for my spiritual work.
For some reason I was embarrassed to ask for it in exchange for my services, much less enough of it to actually fairly compensate me.
I also paid too much attention to the naysayers who said that spiritual gifts should not be monetized; that only charlatans would do that, or greedy frauds — and so on and so forth. I naively figured if I charged too much people wouldn’t find me “spiritual” enough.
Talk about a scarcity mindset!
At some point I read a book by Wallace Wattles called The Science of Getting Rich. It was and is a phenomenal book, and reading it liberated me from quite a lot, not the least of which was the mistaken notion that I shouldn’t be charging fairly for my work. While it’s not a book specific to spiritual practitioners and their businesses, it is rich with information on how money actually works, and how to get enough of it so that you can live.
In fact, according to Wattles I was doomed to fail unless I did charge a fair rate, because to not do so would create a backwards energetic dynamic that would ultimately derail my business.
And he was right.
At some point, a few years in, I began to step out in faith on the advice of Wattles and a handful of other heart-led entrepreneurs. I started charging what my time was really actually worth, given the amount of readings coming in.
Because see, it really is a simple mathematical equation. The busier you are the more precious every minute becomes. Your time in meditation? Precious. Your time in study? Precious. Your time with your spouse and children? So precious.
Become too busy, however, and you will miss out on all of that vital life, which is unacceptable.
One solution would be to add up the minutes and hours involved in the things you must make time to do, while at the same time determining how much you’d like to make annually in order to live well. Then factor in how many hours a week you’d like to work. Once you have all of these numbers you’ll be able to determine precisely how much you need to make an hour in order to achieve your goals.
This is what I did in my own life, and in short order I went from $15 readings to $60 readings. (Which was still too low — but baby steps.) Surprisingly, as soon as I did, my reading appointments went through the roof. Which meant I had to increase my prices again, and so I went from $60 to $90.
I won’t bore you the many incremental shifts I made in my pricing; what you should know is that by the time I stopped giving intuitive readings, my hourly rate was $300+. I also sold packages that were priced in the thousands.
I thought when I raised my rates that high, clients would fall off. But guess what happened? My bookings increased again. And that increase was not a bad thing.
In fact it was a sign that I was actually doing something very, very right.
Here is the point I want to stress: It is okay to be a spiritual businessperson. It is okay to have goals, to aspire, and to aim higher. It is okay to charge a fair wage reflective of your abilities, talents, and time. It is okay to dream big and to design your life in such a way that you can actually live big.
In fact, that is perfect. It’s wonderful. And I also think it’s spiritual.
There will always be naysayers. There will always be people who are aghast at the very idea that spiritual practitioners should charge for their work so that they can, oh you know, feed their kids and have a roof over their heads. They will wag their finger at you and call you a charlatan, a fraud, and many other things.
Let them. Don’t even respond. Consider their indictments to be an honor, because that is what they are. The higher you climb, my friend, the more the devil sees you. If they are complaining it means that you are succeeding. And so be thankful!
Don’t be afraid to do what you came here to do, which is to SHINE. Keep going. You’ll be surprised how much flow and ease there will be when you finally just START. When you move in the direction of your passion. Your service. Your heart. You were born to feel fulfilled and to live a purposeful, intentional, massively successful life. All of these are spiritual gifts, and actual attributes of Source Energy.
Which means they are totally and utterly … good. Because God is good.
I want to gauge your interest in something.
I am preparing a class to teach others the processes I developed over the years of being a professional intuitive. These are the processes, I do believe, that allowed me to deliver awesome sessions which in turn caused my rates to go from $15 to $300.
The class isn’t ready yet, but soon. The first of any of my classes, once launched, is the only time a student will get hands-on support from me. (Unless you’re a member of The Lightworkers Lab.) And while the classes are always fun, and Spirit ALWAYS shows up — I can only handle a set number of people. Fifty at the most, usually. (Okay sixty — I always let a few more people join if they truly truly want it.)
If you are a Lightworker interested in learning how to conduct a Lightworker session (i.e., psychic reading, Reiki, angel therapy, coaching, hypnotherapy, etc.), sign up now to be on the waiting list. Please do not leave a comment here to sign up — you will not be added to the list that way.
To be clear: This is NOT a class where I will teach you HOW to be a Lightworker in your specific field. This is a class where I teach you how to successfully and consistently conduct awesome spiritual sessions for any client, in order to grow your business.
Those who sign up will be the first to hear when I launch this class, which will probably be in the next six weeks or so. It will sell out very quickly. I will give everyone on the list the first chance to register, if you still want to at the time of launch.
P.S.: Are you wondering whether YOU are a Lightworker? If so, listen to the audio below and finally figure it out. I promise, it will clear up a lot. <3
