Clairsentience is the psychic ability by which one feels, senses, or intuits his or her way through the world. It means “clear-feeling,” and is usually associated with the gut, as in, to follow your gut.
Rather than seeing or hearing metaphysical reality, clairsentients feel it.
A clairsentient may walk into a house, for example, and be able to immediately feel the presence of a ghost or spirit with them in the room. They cannot see it or communicate with it as a medium or a clairvoyant may be able to; however, they can sense for certain that they are not alone. The clairsentient may come to this knowing on an intuitive level only, but more often than not, his or her physical senses will play a role in the psychic discernment.
In the example of perceiving the ghost, a clairsentient may, for instance, literally feel sensations on or in the body such as tickling or tingling on the skin, a chill running down the spine, goosebumps arising, having their hair stand on end, etc. Another down-to-earth example of clairsentience that most of us have experienced at one time or another is that feeling of absolutely knowing when someone is staring at you from behind. You can just sense it. You may turn around, and sure enough, there is indeed someone with their eyes piercing right through you.
A Heavy Burden
Some clairsentients might regard their gift more as a curse. Because of their innate ability to feel things (other people’s pain being no exception), they are often sought out by those in distress who want to dump or vent out their frustrations on them. Making things more difficult, clairsentients often feel a misplaced duty to make others happy, whole, and well. While this is beautiful in theory, it is not realistic, nor is it their actual responsibility. One of the hardest things the clairsentient will ever learn is that they simply cannot sacrifice all of their energy for the benefit of others. Yes, service is good and many clairsentients are called to live lives dedicated to it, yet without proper boundaries and the commitment to care for oneself first (how can you be good for anybody else if you don’t?) they will find themselves unable to do much of anything for anybody, over time.
Not only are clairsentients sought out by people in need, they often find themselves stumbling upon and absorbing other people’s feelings without even knowing it. For example one minute they will feel fine and the next minute they are sad, or sick, or angry, or anxious. At first blush there is no discernible reason for this, however, when the clairsentient digs a little deeper they will usually find that they are feeling this because someone close to them is exuding the feeling as an energy, and they in turn are soaking it up. The bad news is this can be highly taxing to the clairsentient’s energy, and also damaging ultimately to the physical body.
For this reason it is incredibly important that clairsentients practice hyper-vigilant energetic hygiene. They must never forget to psychically shield, and always to ask themselves when feeling out of the ordinary: Does this even belong to me?
Far too often, the answer will be NO. When that is the case, release the intrusive energy with a blessing and resume the normal activity of your day. (Learning to shed needless or harmful energy will take practice, but is achievable over time.)
The Healers Of The World
Clairsentients often feel compelled to work in the healing field, for they are truly the healers of the world. They must embrace the idea that they are here for a higher purpose, and that they possess a unique ability that can help a great many people. They are compassionate individuals who can bring much light to the planet and ease the world’s suffering. They are often drawn to professions such as:
* Nurse * Counseling *Therapeutic Touch *Reiki *Animal Rescue
*Chakra Balancing *Social Work *Massage *Acupuncture
*Energetic Modification *Spiritual Healing *Advocacy/Activism
*Mediator *Teacher *Hospice Help *Intuitive Reader *Charity
The clairsentient must remember to seek employment that is in energetic alignment with love, light, and compassion. If they find themselves in a shallow or overly-corporate job that is not of real service to others, they will not last long and if they do, they will not be happy. Follow your heart and your gut — this is the mantra of those who can psychically feel.
Other Examples Of Clairsentience
- In a large crowd, or at a concert, or lecture hall; you may feel overwhelmed, dizzy, woozy, or sickened by all of the emotions surrounding you.
- Walking into a party and having a gut feeling of dread or elation, pointing you in the direction to either stay and enjoy the night, or hightail it out of there and go home.
- If you borrow an article of clothing from a friend that has been worn during a particularly traumatic — or on the other end of the spectrum, an overly joyous — occasion, you will be able to pick up on its corresponding energy.
- When holding an object that belongs to someone — such as a watch or other piece of jewelry — you may be able to feel or tap into the owner’s energy.
- Looking at a photograph of a person and sensing what kind of person they are and how they felt at the time the picture was taken.
Clairsentience can be used to help yourself as well as a great many others. It isn’t something meant to take over your life or make you miserable — it truly is a gift, and a beautiful one at that.
